Model inspired by Gaetano Sgarabotto

One of our all-time favorite models for crafting violins is an adaptation of a 20th-century violin created by this renowned master.

Crafted with a deep longing to honor the masters of the 20th century and a desire to explore antique-style instruments, this model emerged. Within the vast range of instruments from this era you find a mesmerizing variety of patinas, from pristine to gracefully aged. And with this model we seek to replicate just that.

The tonal quality of this violin has consistently amazed us since its inception. We consider ourselves fortunate to have crafted numerous violins that possess exceptional responsiveness, accompanying talented musicians in their musical pursuits. We are committed to building upon these achievements for many years to come.

  • Born in 1878 in Vicenza he began his career as self taught before moving to Milan where he worked for famous makers such as Riccardo Antoniazzi and Leandro Bisiach. This was the generation of makers who revived Italian violin making.

In 1926 he moved to Parma and was eventually given the opportunity to open his own violin making school here, the first of its kind in Italy. Here he passed on his skills to a number of talented makers here amongst his son Pietro who also became a renowned violin making master in his own right.

Gaetano Sgarabotto both made new instruments as well as copies of famous instruments. His main inspiration was Antonio Stradivari and Nicolò Amati.
